Artist Statement :

I perceive the world in terms of who I am, and what I have met in life and project this onto the world that I perceive.  Aware of this and the fact that the nature of things is independent of my senses, I may be able to escape the dumber sorts of illusions. However, I have only my own perceptions of the world thus the world is only a reflection of my own sensibilities.

The painting above portrays the descent of symbolic creatures that guide the "people" through the various complexities of their life course. The figures are falling towards a kiva, and then into the sipapu. The dark winged figure represents the dark forces in life, including death.  The central figure is the vital life force of reproduction, vitality and joy.  On the right the inverted figure represents fate, the unknowable future, the crow intelligence and freedom, and the snake is the embodiment of strength and stealth.
